New season of hit show Killing Fields could solve grisly murder featured in true crime book

Jan. 12, 2018 / PRZen / SEATTLE — Discovery Channel’s “Killing Fields” is a hit true-crime series that explores sprawling places across America hiding stories of gruesome murders. This season’s focus is on the murder of Carrie Singer, a 28-year-old who was found half naked and brutally bludgeoned to death in Isle of Wight, Virginia.

Residents of the tight-knit community where Carrie’s remains were discovered are still haunted by the unsolved murder. But investigator Randy Patrick’s efforts to capture Carrie’s killer reignites hope the case will finally be solved.

Carrie’s mother, Patty Lord, shared her daughter’s story in Grief Diaries: Project Cold Case, published in November 2016 by AlyBlue Media. The book is the 18th in the popular Grief Diaries series created by Lynda Cheldelin Fell, an award-winning author and grief educator who partnered with Ryan Backmann of the national nonprofit organization Project Cold Case, to

Discovery Channel’s True Crime Series KILLING FIELDS Travels to Virginia for Season 3, Today

Discovery Channel's True Crime Series KILLING FIELDS Travels to Virginia for Season 3, Today

Across America, there are isolated places that appear untouched. In these desolate and sprawling areas – known as KILLING FIELDS – dozens of deaths remain mysteries, baffling anyone daring enough to investigate. On Thursday, January 4 at 9 PM ET/PT, Discovery will head to Isle of Wight County, Virginia to investigate a brutal cold case in the third season of the network’s hit true-crime series KILLING FIELDS.

KILLING FIELDS is co-executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Tom Fontana (“St. Elsewhere,” “Homicide: Life On The Street,” “Oz” and “The Philanthropist”) and Academy Award-winning film director Barry Levinson (“Rain Man,” “Diner,” “Bugsy,” “Wag the Dog” and “Good Morning, Vietnam”).

Isle of Wight is an isolated farmland community in Virginia – miles from nearly everything and everyone. But the quiet community was marked by

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Killing Fields’ Detective Says True-Crime Docuseries Has Helped Bring Attention to Cold Cases

“At first, I was
nervous. I didn’t know what to expect and was afraid that we might be portrayed
in a bad light,” Major Ronald Herbert, head of the Criminal Investigation
Division, tells ET about Discovery Channel’s true-crime docuseries, Killing Fields, coming to his Louisiana
Parish to reinvestigate cold cases in the area.

However, his biggest
fear turned out to be the exact opposite as the show, now airing season two, has
brought extra attention not only to the cold cases, but has shed light on how
competent the authorities of Iberville Parish are. The reinvestigation into the
two cold cases featured on the show, Herbert says, has demonstrated the
importance of the team’s jobs and how far technology has advanced since Curtis “Cochise”
Smith went missing in 1991 and later, in 1997, when former Louisiana State
University student Eugenie

Discovery’s ‘Killing Fields’ is your next true crime obsession

What do you get when you mix the aesthetic of True Detective with the storytelling of Serial? That would be Killing Fields, Discovery Channel’s first true crime drama series, which returns for Season 2 on Jan. 3.

The second season — shot in real time — continues to track the investigation into the 1997 cold case of Louisiana State University student Eugenie Boisfontaine, whose body was discovered in a bayou and whose murder has remained unsolved for years.

Leading the charge is Detective Rodie Sanchez, the first investigator assigned to Boisfontaine’s case back in ’97, who came out of retirement to try and solve the mystery which has haunted him for the past two decades.

In Season 2, the team is also tracking another case after evidence surfaces of a body stuffed inside a barrel. Sanchez believes that this is tied to an unsolved disappearance he worked 26 years ago.
