BuzzFeed Shake-Up: Entertainment Chief Ze Frank Gets New Role in Reorganization (Exclusive)

The executive will retool a development partner program as the digital publisher largely disbands the Entertainment Group it formed in summer 2016.

BuzzFeed is overhauling the structure of its entertainment group and shifting the division’s top executive into a more creative role, part of a larger company-wide reorganization that began late last year to diversify the digital publisher’s businesses.

Ze Frank, a longtime BuzzFeed executive who for the last year and a half has overseen nearly all non-news efforts as president of the BuzzFeed Entertainment Group, is moving to the newly created role of chief research and development officer where he will lead a 12-person team that experiments with new video formats and emerging platforms. Frank will also continue to work on branded content initiatives for the company.

CEO Jonah Peretti announced the change in a memo to staff Wednesday, explaining that Frank’s new role will give him the mandate to

Tim Baney Headshot

What was the genesis of Deadly Dentists?

It’s a concept we’ve been interested in for a while because dentistry is such a universal anxiety. Once we found the right producer and combination of stories, we pulled the trigger.

Why do you think there is an appetite for this series?

It’s a natural fit for ID. Anything that generates fear adds to the experience of watching a murder mystery. The prospect of seeing the

‘Law & Order True Crime’ Aims to Show New Side to Famed Menendez Case (Exclusive Video)

Next to the O.J. Simpson “trial of the century,” the Menendez case was arguably one of the highest-profile crimes of the ’90s.

Like Simpson, the Menendez brothers quickly became media mainstays following their parents’ brutal deaths, with their pictures splashed across countless newspapers and magazines in addition to their continued presence on the then-young cable network Court TV.

Despite the wall-to-wall media coverage, the team behind NBC’s forthcoming Law Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders contends there’s another side to the Menendez brothers that the public never saw — one that the first season of the anthology drama hopes to bring to light.

“I thought I knew the story of the Menendez brothers,” star Edie Falco, who plays the Menendez brothers’ equally famous defense attorney, Leslie Abramson, says in The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive video. “The further into it I looked, I realized there was so much I didn’t know.”

In addition to showing some
