True crime, childhood adventures take center stage at library event – Cleburne Times

Bettye Cook, president of the Friends of the Cleburne Public Library, waxed poetic on the wonders of literature Monday night as she scanned the crowd gathered for a library event.

“Through reading you can converse with the best minds of the world,” Cook said. “You can go anywhere.”

Author Lisa Wingate, the night’s speaker, agreed.

“Stories change us on the inside,” Wingate said. “Then we go out and change the world on the outside. That’s why libraries are so important.”

Wingate, author of more than 25 novels, appeared as part of the library’s ongoing Meet the Author series. The event, held at the Cleburne Conference Center, attracted attendees from Fort Worth, Abilene, Southlake and Louisiana as well as Johnson County, Cook proudly reported.

“We’ve hosted many author events, but this is probably one of the biggest we’ve had,” Cleburne Library Manager Tina Dunham said.

Having won numerous awards
