Patty Hearst Drama Coming from James Mangold and Elle Fanning

The prolific director will next tackle one of the most sensationalized true crime sagas.

Patty Hearst‘s story has found its director in James Mangold. Variety reports that the Logan director has signed on to helm the project with Elle Fanning in talks to star.

The film is as yet untitled, and will draw from Jeffrey Toobin’s true crime book, “American Heiress: The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes and Trial of Patty Hearst.” The highly sensationalized event surrounds how Hearst, then a 19-year-old student, was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army and re-emerged as a member of the terrorist group.

The Amazon description “American Heiress” speaks to the true extent of the intense fervor surrounding the Hearst case. These are elements of a real-life case but they feel thoroughly fictional. FX developing drama about Chicago bank fraud

FX is developing a drama about a convicted swindler who orchestrated a 1988 scheme to defraud First National Bank of Chicago of nearly $70 million.

Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance is set to play veteran con man Armand Moore if “Heist 88” is picked up as a series. Moore masterminded the money transfer from three First National corporate accounts to two banks in Austria in what one prosecutor at the time called “the most massive and almost successful computer crime I’m aware of in the history of the United States.”

One of the First National account holders discovered a shortfall before any money was withdrawn in Austria. Moore was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison and received additional time for plotting to escape the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

It’s unclear if the project would be filmed in Chicago. Vance, who is set to executive produce with Chicago native Dwayne Johnson-Cochran, won an

Danny Boyle Is Directing A True Crime Drama For TV Called ‘Trust’

It seems Martin Scorsese isn’t the only big film director making the jump to the small screen: step forward 28 Days Later, Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire (to name a few) director Danny Boyle.

FX Network have announced the British director will be at the helm for their forthcoming series Trust, a true crime drama with season one focused on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.

ComingSoon reports that, “The 10-episode first instalment of Trust tells the story of John Paul Getty III, heir to the Getty oil fortune. The first instalment takes place in 1973, when the young Getty is kidnapped in Rome and his mafia captors are banking on a multi-million dollar ransom.”

‘Alias Grace’: How a True-Crime Drama Became the Most Relevant Show on TV

For two decades, Sarah Polley has been desperately trying to adapt Margaret Atwood’s book about a young woman who was abused, mistreated and silenced in the mid-1800s. By the time the 38-year-old actor-turned-writer/director brought the author’s 1996 historical novel Alias Grace to the small screen – the six-hour miniseries began streaming on Netflix in early November – she had no idea she’d end up discussing the very same issues taking place in the 21st century. “I was imagining when I did press for [this], I would be introducing this as a conversation,” Polley says. “And now it’s the thing that I get asked about the most.” She’s referring to the recent Harvey Weinstein scandal and the deluge of similar accusations of sexual misconduct that have followed in its wake. “It’s an incredible shift to have witnessed. Suddenly, what happens to you, living in a society where

Ryan Murphy has recruited Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), James Van Der Beek (What Would Diplo Do?), House of Cards alumna Kate Mara and American Horror Story regular Evan Peters for his latest FX series, drama Pose.

The established quartet will join five transgender actors — the largest transgender series regular cast ever for a scripted series — MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, and Angelica Ross, as well as Ryan Jamaal Swain, Tony winner Billy Porter and Dyllon Burnside, who also had been previously cast in the project.

Set in the 1980s, Pose looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.

Peters and Mara play New Jersey couple Stan and Patty, who get sucked into the glamour and intrigue of New York
