Ross man to mark stroke anniversary with trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro – Tribune

Updated 11 hours ago

Bill Zlatos of Ross is determined not to let a stroke dash his desire for adventure and accomplishment.

So the retired newspaper reporter will commemorate the fifth anniversary of his stroke by attempting a life-long dream climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

“I call this my ‘I’m not dead yet tour,’” Zlatos said. “Just because a stroke or other illness knocks you down doesn’t mean you should let it defeat you.”

Zlatos will scale the 19,341 foot dormant volcano — the highest mountain in Africa — with David Edgerton, an employee of Erie Insurance, which is a sponsor of the American Heart and Stroke Association.

Zlatos and Edgerton are climbing the mountain to raise funds for the non-profit organization.

“Bill has defied the odds and dedicated countless hours in preparation

Drew Peterson case back on TV ahead of 10th anniversary of wife’s disappearance

Convicted murderer Drew Peterson will be the subject of at least two TV specials this month that are timed to the upcoming 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, the fourth wife of the former Bolingbrook police sergeant.

Oxygen Media announced this week that “Snapped Notorious: Drew Peterson,” an “eye-opening” two-hour special, will premiere 8 p.m. Aug. 25. Investigation Discovery, meanwhile, promises its Aug. 27 special, “Drew Peterson: An American Murder Mystery,” will unravel the “twisted web of lies, corruption and violence behind one of the most fascinating missing persons’ cases in recent history.”

Drew Peterson, now 63, was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose death was re-examined after Stacy Peterson disappeared in October 2007. Authorities said Drew Peterson is a suspect in that case.

Last year, he was sentenced to an additional 40 years in prison for trying to hire a hit man to kill

4th Anniversary Of Teen’s Disappearance Has Passed, Mother Speaks Out

The four-year anniversary of a teen’s disappearance has just passed, and her mother is starting to lose hope. In 2013, Emily Paul of Southport Florida went missing. She had just barely turned 14.

Her mom, Pam Massimiani, told Oxygen that she believed her daughter ran away. She said that Emily left a note behind stating something to the effect that she may return home at the age of 18. Emily would be 18 now.

“I used to feel hopeful, real hopeful,” said Pam. “But she’s 18 now and I haven’t seen her.”

Pam said she wasn’t the kind of mom that would drop off her daughter by herself at the mall. She felt Emily was still too young for that. Emily did stay home by herself on occasion. The day she went missing was one such occasion.

“That day, I had left (the house) particularly early and she just seemed like her usual Emily

Patton Oswalt remembers wife on one-year anniversary of her death

Patton Oswalt is putting his denial to rest one year after his wife’s tragic death.

The famous comic penned a somber post on Facebook Friday, recalling the morning his wife Michelle McNamara died — one year ago, to the day — and how he is finally coming to terms with his loss.

“It’s awful, but it’s not fatal,” he began the heartbreaking note.

“Last night I took off my wedding ring. I couldn’t bear removing it since April 21st, 2016. But now it felt obscene … Removing the ring was removing the last symbol of denial of who I was now, and what my life is, and what my responsibilities are,” he wrote.

‘Zodiologists’ gather at Lake Herman Road to mark grizzly anniversary

Sandy Betts says she’s convinced she escaped the infamous Zodiac killer nearly 50 years ago, and has been obsessed with bringing him to justice ever since.

Jerry Johnson, on the other hand, has been hooked on the case since a law enforcement officer came to him in his capacity as a federal agent in the late 1960s, with a story of a Zodiac encounter.

A group of some half-dozen “Zodiologists” gathered Tuesday night at the Lake Herman Road site — at the Benicia/Vallejo border — of the still unknown killer’s first murders. They met at 11 p.m. Dec. 20 to mark the exact time of the
