Ex-Calif. Lawmaker Accused of Aiding Wife’s Suicide as Defense Says She Was in ‘Severe Pain’

A former California assemblyman has been charged with helping his wife kill herself in 2016, PEOPLE confirms.

Steve Clute, 69, is accused of aiding the suicide of his 66-year-old wife, Pam Clute, a respected math educator who was found dead in the couple’s home in Palm Desert, California, on Aug. 21, 2016.

Steve was charged on Thursday. He served in the state assembly from 1982 to 1992.

Prosecutors allege that he provided his wife with the handgun she used to kill herself, according to John Hall, a spokesman with the Riverside County, California, District Attorney’s Office.

Hall says the charge came after a follow-up investigation into Pam’s death, following “a significant and thorough investigation initially.”

The DA’s office requested the additional inquiry after reviewing the evidence from the first probe, Hall says.

Steve’s defense attorney, Virginia Blumenthal, says he will plead not guilty at his arraignment, which is scheduled for Wednesday. She tells PEOPLE that Steve

Teacher Accused of Sex Abuse After Authorities Find Her Waiting for Student in Candlelit Room

An Oklahoma teacher was arrested on Wednesday after authorities learned that she was allegedly having sex with a male teenage student, PEOPLE confirms.

The Canadian County, Oklahoma, Sheriff’s Office began investigating Hunter Day after the teen’s parents contacted them: Evidence of the illicit relationship — including explicit text messages and nude photos — were allegedly found on the boy’s phone.

Day, a 22-year-old science teacher at Yukon High School, is facing charges of second-degree rape, facilitating sexual contact with a minor and possession of child pornography.

“This is a classic case of a serious breach of public trust,” Canadian County Sheriff Chris West told reporters at a news conference this week, according to local news station KWTV. “School teachers are entrusted to protect and educate our children, not to engage in an unlawful sexual relationship with them.”

Day is married; her husband is a football coach at the same high school.

“I’m no longer surprised by

Man Accused of Killing Gabriel Fernandez Was ‘Pure Evil’ Who ‘Liked Torturing’ the 8-Year-Old: Prosecutors

During closing arguments Monday in the trial of the man accused of torturing and killing his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son, prosecutors alleged defendant Isauro Aguirre was “pure evil,” saying he “liked torturing” the boy because he believed he was gay.

According to KTLA, prosecutor Jon Hatami repeatedly said “the truth is the truth” during his closing argument and recounted the allegations against Aguirre: that he beat, burned, whipped, bit, and shot BB pellets at Gabriel, and forced the child to eat cat litter and animal excrement.

He also alleged the man often restrained the boy in a cubby, placing a sock in the child’s mouth.

Gabriel can’t walk through that door and take the witness stand and tell you all the horrible things that the defendant did to him,” Hatami said, the station reports. “There is evil in this room right now, and it’s right over there.”

Did an Accused Pimp With Hollywood Connections Kill ‘The Black Dahlia?’

In a new book, British author Piu Eatwell reveals unpublicized details about the notorious 1940’s murder mystery of the “Black Dahlia,” presenting a case that the starlet’s killer was an accused pimp who had Hollywood connections.

On the morning of January, 15, 1947, the mutilated body of aspiring Hollywood actress Elizabeth Short was discovered on the sidewalk of a Los Angeles parking lot. The 22-year-old’s body was found cut in half. She had been bathed and drained of blood.

As details of her gruesome murder began to emerge, the press dubbed her the Black Dahlia after the exotic but intoxicating flower.

Eatwell’s book, Black Dahlia, Red Rose, paints a picture of Leslie Dillon, an accused pimp with purported associates in both Hollywood and the Los Angeles Police Department, as the prime suspect. At the time, an LAPD psychiatrist told the local press that Dillon knew “more about the Dahlia murder than the police
