Mistrial Declared for Man Accused of Murdering 19-Year-Old Former Cheerleader Who Was Set on Fire

A Mississippi jury could not reach a verdict of guilt or innocence in the murder trial of the man charged in the horrific 2014 burning death of 19-year-old former high school cheerleader Jessica Chambers, according to multiple news reports.

Quinton Tellis, 29, an acquaintance of Chambers who grew up in the same small-town neighborhood in Courtland, Mississippi, and attended the same high school, had faced life in prison without parole if convicted.

Authorities investigated for more than a year before bringing a murder charge against Tellis in the death of Chambers, who was found near her car along a back road on the night of Dec. 6, 2014. Both she and her black 2005 Kia Rio had been doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Chambers was flown by air ambulance to Memphis, Tennessee, where she died from her injuries early the next

Georgia Father Accused of Beating 15-Day-Old Daughter to Death and Hiding Body in Cloth in Woods

The father of a Georgia newborn found beaten to death in the woods on Sunday has been charged with murder in her death, PEOPLE confirms.

On Wednesday, Christopher Michael McNabb, 27, of Covington, Georgia, was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and concealing a death, said Capt. Keith Crum of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office tells PEOPLE.

McNabb is accused of killing his 15-day-old daughter, Caliyah McNabb, before hiding her body in the woods near his family’s mobile home, says Crum.

An autopsy determined that the infant died from blunt force trauma to the head, Newton Coroner Tommy Davis said Tuesday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

“It’s heartrending that that small of a child — a baby only 15 days old — had been so injured that it died,” says Crum. “It’s hard to rationalize an irrational act.”

A Missouri man believed to be responsible for the disappearances of two women nearly a decade apart has been charged with their murders, PEOPLE confirms.

Kylr Yust, 29, faces two counts each of first-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse in the deaths of Jessica Runions and Kara Kopetsky, according to Cass County, Missouri, jail officials. He was reportedly charged on Thursday.

Runions, 21, was last seen leaving a friend’s house party in September 2016. She allegedly left the party with Yust, a friend of her boyfriend.

FBI thanks TV show for helping capture Pennsylvania mom accused of abduction

The FBI is crediting a true-crime television show for information it received that led to the capture of a Pennsylvania mom accused of kidnapping her son three years ago.

On Monday, the agency announced the arrest of Maria Evelia Cabrera-Gutierrez, as well as the recovery of her 4-year-old son, Daniel Markus, a day after an episode about the case aired on HLN’s “The Hunt with John Walsh.”

In August 2014, Cabrera-Gutierrez was ordered by a Reading court to share custody of her son with his father, Guy Markus. Instead, she allegedly left the state on a bus in November.

She was subsequently charged with interference with custody of children and concealment of the

How Could Aspiring Pastor Accused of Stabbing Wife to Death Fare …

The killing of a North Carolina newlywed has consumed headlines in recent days after her husband, accused of her murder, suggested he may have stabbed her in his sleep after he took too much cold medicine. Now, a seasoned defense attorney says the man’s claim could hold up in court as a defense.

Matthew Phelps, 28, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 29-year-old Lauren Hugelmaier Phelps, who was found stabbed to death in their Raleigh home on Friday. Phelps called 911 in a panic, telling the dispatcher that he took more cold medicine than he should have before finding Hugelmaier dead.

“It sounds farfetched to the general public,” Chris Beechler, of Beechler Tomberlin in Winston-Salem, tells PEOPLE. “But I will tell you, the idea that certain meds can get into your system and cause you to

Netflix’s Next True-Life Tale Is About ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Freeing An Accused Murderer

For as many twists and turns as Making a Murderer had (and continues to have), Netflix’s next true crime title is even more unbelievable. In 2003, Juan Catalan was arrested for the murder of a 16-year-old girl. He claimed that he didn’t do it because he was at a Los Angeles Dodgers game at the time, and even had the ticket stub to prove it, but “his offer to take a lie-detector test was refused,” according to ABC News. “And the fact that he did not fit the description eyewitnesses gave of the shooter did not persuade prosecutors.”

Four years later, however, Catalan was released from prison, thanks to an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry picks up a prostitute so he can use the carpool lane and get to the Dodgers game faster. The HBO series filmed at the stadium, including a shot
