True-crime podcast has a local flavor – The Register

Attention true crime fans: A podcast is set to debut Friday that may strike a chord with Lane County residents.

And for some, the stories may hit close to home.

The podcast, “Small Town Dicks,” tells real-life crime stories in 13 individual episodes, some of which are based on crimes that occurred in the Eugene-Springfield area. The names of everyone associated with the crimes have been changed. Victim’s families and relatives of suspects will speak but not be identified by name.

Set in the fictitious community of “Small Town, U.S.A.,” the podcast features new details and behind-the-scenes perspectives from those who were involved in the cases, including police officers.

The show could be the next in a line of popular true crime podcasts — an audio broadcast on the Internet — following such hits as “My Favorite Murder” and “Serial.”

Natalee Holloway Case: Investigator Frustrated as Informant Quits Probe Into 2005 Aruba Disappearance

The uncharted path to find answers in The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway takes another turn as the six-part Oxygen series about the teen who went missing in Aruba in 2005 continues this week.

In an exclusive clip from the series’ third episode, which airs Saturday, an informant working with an investigator hired by Natalee’s father to solve the mystery abruptly announces, “I quit,” thus presenting another roadblock.

Natalee’s father, Dave Holloway, and investigator T.J. Ward say they’ve located human skeletal remains from a gravesite identified during an 18-month private investigation on and off the island. They still are awaiting word on whether the DNA may be a match for the Alabama teen, who was 18 when she vanished on a high school graduation trip.

On the way to those possible answers, the Oxygen series earlier revealed that Holloway and Ward had set up an undercover sting in February 2017 hoping to

Netflix’s Next True-Life Tale Is About ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Freeing An Accused Murderer

For as many twists and turns as Making a Murderer had (and continues to have), Netflix’s next true crime title is even more unbelievable. In 2003, Juan Catalan was arrested for the murder of a 16-year-old girl. He claimed that he didn’t do it because he was at a Los Angeles Dodgers game at the time, and even had the ticket stub to prove it, but “his offer to take a lie-detector test was refused,” according to ABC News. “And the fact that he did not fit the description eyewitnesses gave of the shooter did not persuade prosecutors.”

Four years later, however, Catalan was released from prison, thanks to an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry picks up a prostitute so he can use the carpool lane and get to the Dodgers game faster. The HBO series filmed at the stadium, including a shot
