Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter To Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom To Be Murdered

For seven years before the murder, Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blancharde lived in a small pink bungalow on West Volunteer Way in Springfield, Missouri. Their neighbors liked them. “’Sweet’ is the word I’d use,” a former friend of Dee Dee’s told me not too long ago. Once you met them, people said, they were impossible to forget.

Dee Dee was 48 years old, originally from Louisiana. She was a large, affable-looking person, which she reinforced by dressing in bright, cheerful colors. She had curly brown hair she liked to hold back with ribbons. People who knew her remember her as generous with her time and, when she could be, generous with money. She could make friends quickly and inspire deep devotion. She did not have a job, but instead served as a full-time caretaker for Gypsy Rose, her teenage daughter.

It seems like the surprise Netflix hit Making A Murderer is bringing back the true crime documentary as a viable format for primetime television. There have been the dramatizations like The People vs. OJ Simpson and an upcoming Law Order show on the Menendez brothers, but now CBS is trying to recreate the long form documentary magic that made Making A Murderer such a success. The case they plan to focus on? The murder of JonBenet Ramsey in The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey.

Reelz uncovers Hollywood Homicide – TBI Vision TBI Vision

Reelz has ordered a new true-crime series, Hollywood Homicide Uncovered.

The show will be produced by Canada-based producer and distributor Breakthrough Entertainment for the US cable net.

It profiles horrific crimes involving Hollywood celebrities, examining the evidence, interviewing experts, and using drama reconstructions to show viewers key events.

Cases covered will include Phil Spector, Tupac Shakur, and Robert Blake. The show comes out of Breakthrough’s US alternative content division.

Steve Cheskin, senior VP of programming at Reelz said: “We know this series will show our viewers emotionally charged and engaging, real stories about celebrities and Hollywood.”

The new series was announced as part of the cable net’s fall schedule announcement.

Other new offerings include Rich and Acquitted, looking at crime cases involving stars who were acquitted.

There will also be three doc specials. Titanic: Sinking the Myths will examine myths surrounding the ill-fated ship. it comes from US prodco Katco Media.

Breakthrough to produce crime docuseries for Reelz

Breakthrough Entertainment has inked a deal with U.S. cable network Reelz that will see the Toronto-based company producing a six-part docuseries called Hollywood Homicide Uncovered.

The series, which tells the stories of homicides involving celebrities, will debut as part of Reelz’ 2016 fall lineup. Using recreations and interviews with crime experts, each episode focuses on high-profile murder cases involving the likes of Phil Spector, O.J. Simpson, Dorothy Stratten and Tupac Shakur.

Under the deal, Reelz retains both the U.S. broadcast and streaming rights to the docuseries.

The deal is Breakthrough’s second U.S. broadcast deal in as many months, after the company landed an all-rights broadcast deal with PBS for its Anne of Green Gables MOW. The TV movie is set to bow in November.

Investigation Discovery Inks Deal With James Patterson, Sets Police Documentary & More – TCA

Investigation Discovery has inked a development deal with author James Patterson, greenlighted Black and Blue, an hourlong documentary special about the current state of police affairs and race relations, and set the premiere date for documentary Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four. The announcements were made today at TCA.

Under Patterson’s deal, the Zoo author will write and executive produce a six-part, fully scripted series for the network. It will be based on true crime stories written for Patterson’s new line of novella-length stories, BookShots, thrillers available for under $5 and 150 pages or less—featuring mutually agreed-upon story topics. ID-branded BookShots will be released in conjunction with the on-air premiere of the series, set to debut on ID in 2017.
