The reason you’re seeing so many celebrity documentaries might surprise you

Documentaries are setting the scene for success.

The docuseries genre has catapulted in popularity over recent years with mega celebrities like Beyonce and Lady Gaga giving viewers behind-the-scenes access to their personal lives. According to Business Insider, 73% of Netflix subscribers — which means more than 68 million people — watched at least one documentary in 2016.

But why are these shows so popular? Robert Thompson, professor of popular culture at Syracuse University, tells Moneyish, “We are increasingly in this fragmented world, and these types of shows are appealing to a much more fragmented environment. These things don’t need 30 million viewers; they can get a much smaller number and (still) be a big hit.”

Thompson also shares that by big stars making themselves so available, you don’t need to be satisfied with just paparazzi photos, because they’re completely opening themselves up here. And although it may seem somewhat voyeuristic, that’s all

YBN Nahmir Premieres New Song ‘Popped Up,’ Talks Surprise ‘Rubbin Off the Paint’ Success

“I’m going to reach that No. 1 on Billboard,” YBN Nahmir confidently claims over the phone when asked of his music goals going forward. The Birmingham, AL native’s smash hit, “Rubbin Off The Paint” is soaring up the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The gritty record currently sits at No. 52 (chart dated Dec. 9) and could continue its climb into top 40 status on the Hot 100 in the coming weeks.

The emerging MC didn’t expect success this quickly in his career explaining, “I’m No. 52 and I didn’t even try on the song. I think all the work I put in from my other songs came in on that. God just made it happen. It’s a blessing, I didn’t expect any of this to happen.” The track has received multiple co-signs after being remixed by the likes of Vince Staples and (more recently) Bryson Tiller.

Nahmir’s life has quickly shifted into something he couldn’t imagine

Surprise! AHS grad wins car of her dreams

Inside the Lithia Superstore showroom, a man from a local substitute teacher’s past appeared for her present.

Thanks to a national wellness sweepstakes, Traci Nathaniel Walker of Ashland won the Dodge Challenger muscle car of her dreams Saturday afternoon. As she got behind the wheel for the first time, TV personality Darren Kavinoky surprised her with the keys.

Walker’s new car was the grand prize in the “What’s My Win” contest that Kavinoky promoted earlier this year by jogging, biking and roller-blading his way from California to New York. Walker and Kavinoky also just happened to have graduated from Ashland High School a year apart.

Walker said she’s followed Kavinoky’s TV career for years. Aside from his fitness journey, Kavinoky hosts the nonfiction true crime drama series “Deadly Sins” on Investigation Discovery channel and appears as a TV legal correspondent on CNN and syndicated news programs.
