A Georgia doctor turned herself in to authorities last week after her employees accused her of making violent threats toward them, according to documents issued by the state’s medical board.

PEOPLE’s call to the district attorney’s office was not immediately returned. According to TV station WCTV, she turned herself in to deputies at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and was released on bail.

On Feb. 21, employees of Patterson told officials they worked in fear of being physically harmed, according to an Order of Summary Suspension issued by the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Texas Couple Allegedly Kept Girl as Slave for 16 Years Before She Escaped

A Texas couple is accused of keeping a young West African girl as their slave for 16-years until she escaped from their home two years ago, PEOPLE confirms.

Mohamed Toure, 57, and Denise Cros-Toure, 57, are charged with forced labor of a domestic servant, the Department of Justice said in a news release. The couple appeared in federal court Thursday.

The girl was five when the couple allegedly arranged for her to leave her village in the West African country of Guinea in 2000, according to the news release.

The couple has close ties to the government of Guinea: Toure is the son of the country’s former president, Ahmed Sekou Toure, according to the Washington Post.

The alleged victim, who has not been identified, does not speak English and was allegedly forced to do labor around the couple’s home, including cooking, cleaning, laundry and yard work, all without being paid. She also allegedly

How Smallville’s Allison Mack Allegedly Recruited Unwitting Women Into Sexual ‘Pyramid Scheme’

She is accused of exploiting her status as an actress to make connections with women. She appealed to feminist ideals in friendly messages inviting them to workshops she had described as “the most profound and awesome thing I have ever done.” She seemed kind.

But authorities allege Smallville actress Allison Mack hid her true motives: to recruit women into Nxivm, the controversial self-help group one former member has described as a “cult,” and a sub-group within Nxivm that sexually exploited women.

Now Mack, 35, faces sex trafficking and related charges along with Nxivm co-founder Keith Raniere. Raniere has not yet entered a plea and Mack has pleaded not guilty.

Both face at least 15 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Yoga instructor and author Jennifer Pastiloff tells PEOPLE she met Mack online in 2014, after the actress followed her on Twitter. The two started emailing back and forth, and

‘Golden State Killer’ Suspect Identified as 72-Year-Old Ex-Cop Who Was Fired For Allegedly Stealing

Police have arrested a suspect in the decades-long search for the Golden State Killer, a suspected serial killer and rapist in the 1970s and ’80s.

At a Wednesday press conference, police identified the suspect as Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, a former police officer in both Visalia and Auburn who was fired for allegedly stealing and last worked as an officer in 1979.

A police source previously told PEOPLE DeAngelo had been living Citrus Heights, a Sacramento suburb, and police said at a press conference that he has adult children. He was booked into jail early Wednesday, according to jail records.

DeAngelo is charged with capital murder in four killings: The Feb. 2, 1978, slayings of Brian and Katie Maggiore and the March 1980 slayings of Lyman and Charlene Smith.

But police believe he killed many more people. Over a 10-year-period — from 1976 to 1986 — the Golden State Killer was linked by DNA

Teenager Allegedly Enlisted Friends to Fatally Stab His Mom After First Trying to Poison Her Wine

Before she was fatally strangled on Saturday night, Maine mother Kimberly Mironovas, 47, allegedly survived a previous attempt on her life and didn’t even know it.

According to media reports on Mironovas’ killing, Maine State Police investigators allege she was killed by her teenage son, who, they claim, enlisted the help of two friends to strangle and stab his mom in the neck while she slept, the Kennebec Journal reports.

Citing court records, the Bangor Daily News reports the son is being held without bond on charges of intentional or knowing murder and criminal conspiracy to commit murder. (PEOPLE is not naming the son or the other suspects because prosecutors have not yet determined whether they will be charged as adults.)

Police allege the son and the same two friends attempted to murder his mother previously. The trio allegedly crushed up pills they put into her wine, but she

Suspect Was Allegedly Jilted Boyfriend of Slain Football Player …

The 16-year-old suspect accused of murdering California high school football player Jeremy Sanchez had allegedly been involved in a romantic relationship with him and was angry that Jeremy wanted to break up, police said.

Texas Nurse Allegedly Confessed to Killing Dozens of Small Children: ‘I Really Did Kill Those Babies’

This week, prosecutors presented an alleged prison confession from a Texas pediatric nurse convicted of killing of killing one toddler but suspected of killing as many as 60 small children.

Genene Jones, 67, is known as the “Angel of Death” for the string of deaths that followed her at various hospitals and clinics around San Antonio between 1977 and 1982. She was sentenced to 99 years in prison in 1984 for knowingly administering a fatal overdose to 15-month-old Chelsea McClennan at a clinic in Kerrville, near San Antonio.

But a fresh murder charge was filed against Jones last May, as prosecutors learned she was scheduled to be freed in March 2018, thanks to since-repealed legislation designed to cut down on prison overcrowding.

Since then, Jones was indicted on four additional murder counts. The five new charges involve the deaths of four boys and one girl, ranging in age from three months

Tip From TV Show Leads to Nurse’s Arrest for Allegedly Trying to Have Her Lover’s Wife Killed

An Illinois woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly trying to hire a firm off the so-called dark web to kill her lover’s wife, PEOPLE confirms.

The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office alleges in a statement that Tina Jones, 31, of Des Plaines, paid $10,000 in bitcoin to a purported online firm called the Cosa Nostra International Network — but that the murder plot failed because the company is a sham.

Jones is charged with one count of solicitation of murder for hire, the statement says.

The statement, obtained by PEOPLE, states that a tip from the CBS newsmagazine 48 Hours led to the arrest of Jones, who allegedly paid the company in January.

The program had been investigating alleged online contract killer businesses. Many of these hired assassins can only operate on the dark web, a part of the internet accessed only through specialized software, where users can remain largely anonymous.

The show’s producers notified authorities in Woodridge, Illinois, about
