For broadcast networks not airing the Primetime Emmys in a given year, the night of the show usually means airing either reruns or a special as counterprogramming.
Fox is going the latter route this year, with a special about as far removed from a glitzy celebration of the industry as possible: a two-hour documentary about the Manson family.
Inside the Manson Cult: The Lost Tapes, will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT Monday, Sept. 17, opposite NBC’s Emmy broadcast. The special will feature footage from the Manson family compound at Spahn Ranch that “shows — in real time — how the cult members were brainwashed under Manson’s influence,” according to executive producer Simon Andreae.
